Shilajit resin is not an obvious product to use. It arrives as a dark, sticky mass inside a resealable foil pouch, with no scoop and no obvious portion size. Most of the questions we get are about this rather than about the shilajit itself, so here is the practical version.
How much to take
500mg once daily — roughly the size of a pea. That is the serving stated on the pack, and the weight is the figure to work from. Do not exceed it.
Size comparisons are only ever a rough guide, and they are less reliable for resin than for almost anything else, because resin is far denser than the everyday objects it gets compared to. A piece the size of a grain of rice is nowhere near 500mg — it is a small fraction of it. If you want to be accurate, weigh one portion on a fine scale, look at it properly, and you will have a calibrated eye from then on.
How to get a portion out of the pouch
Resin behaves like very stiff toffee. In a cold house it can be almost solid; in a warm one it will be soft and stringy.
If yours is too hard to work with, press the pouch closed and stand it upright in a mug of warm (not boiling) water for a minute or two. It will soften enough to take a portion with the back of a clean spoon or a cocktail stick. Do not microwave it.
If yours is very soft and sticky, the opposite works — ten minutes in the fridge makes it much easier to handle.
Work near the opening rather than digging deep, and keep the seal and the top few centimetres of the pouch clean so it still closes properly afterwards.
How to take it
Resin does not dissolve well in cold liquid. The reliable method is:
- Take your 500mg portion on a clean spoon
- Stir it into a small amount of warm water until it disperses
- Top up with more warm water, or add it to tea or coffee
It tastes bitter and slightly smoky on its own. Most people prefer it in tea or coffee, and a little honey neutralises most of the bitterness. Some people take it straight and get used to it within a week.
How long a pack lasts
At 500mg a day the arithmetic is simple: divide the pack weight in grams by 0.5 and you have the number of daily servings. A 10g pack is 20 servings, a 30g pack is 60, a 100g pack is 200.
It is worth working this out before you set up a subscription, so your deliveries match your usage rather than piling up in a cupboard. If yours are arriving faster than you can use them, change the interval or skip a delivery in your account — you do not need to contact us.
Storage
Press the seal fully closed after each use and keep the pouch in a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight. Resin is stable and does not need refrigerating. Use a clean, dry implement each time; introducing water into the pouch is the main way people spoil one.
A note on consistency
Resin varies in texture between batches. A softer or firmer pack than your last one is normal and is a function of temperature and the source material, not a fault.
